Reconfiguring virtual machines
Limitations
- You cannot change, detach, or delete the boot volume.
- You can only attach and detach non-boot volumes.
- You cannot modify previously added network interfaces.
- You cannot attach or detach network interfaces to and from shelved VMs.
- You cannot change the flavor for running and shelved VMs.
Prerequisites
- Virtual machines are created, as described in Creating virtual machines.
To reconfigure a virtual machine
- On the Compute > Virtual machines > Virtual machines screen, select a virtual machine.
- On the Overview tab, click the pencil icon next to a parameter you need to change.
To attach a volume to a virtual machine
- On the Compute > Storage > Volumes screen, click the ellipsis button next to an unused volume, and then click Attach in the context menu.

In the Attach volume window, select the VM from the drop-down list, and then click Done.
To detach a volume from a virtual machine
- On the Compute > Storage > Volumes screen, click the ellipsis button next to the volume that is in use.
- If the VM is not running, click Detach.

If the VM is running, you can only click Force detach to immediately detach the volume.
There is a risk of data loss.
