What's new

Backup: HPE StoreOnce Catalyst support

Partners can now use HPE StoreOnce appliances as backup storage. The Cyber Protection agent communicates with the appliance through the native HPE StoreOnce Catalyst protocol. The agent deduplicates the data before it sends the data to the appliance. As a result, the backups use less network bandwidth and less storage space.

Key benefits

  • New storage option: Offer HPE StoreOnce appliances as backup storage to customers that already use them.
  • Lower storage costs: Reduce the storage space that the backups use, through hardware-level deduplication.
  • Lower network load: Reduce the network bandwidth that the backup transfers use.

Supported scenarios

  • Back up workloads to an HPE StoreOnce Catalyst store.

Licensing

  • Solution-based: Backup and Disaster Recovery, Ultimate Protection
  • Service-based (per-workload, per-gigabyte): Standard Protection

Backup: Orphaned archives management for Microsoft 365

Partners can now identify and clean up orphaned archives of Microsoft 365 workloads. These archives are no longer associated with a backup plan or a registered workload but continue to consume cloud storage.

Cloud cleanup plans can now be configured to include or exclude these archives. An Orphaned filter is also available in cloud backup storage locations to help identify them.

Key benefits

  • Storage optimization: Reclaim the cloud storage that the orphaned backups of cloud-to-cloud workloads use.
  • Lower costs: Reduce the cloud storage costs through the automatic detection of orphaned backups.
  • Compliance: Support specific data retention and cleanup requirements.

Supported scenarios

  • Identify orphaned Microsoft 365 archives.
  • Clean up an entire backup location or selected archives.
  • Provide multiple encryption passwords for archives within the cleanup scope, or specify a password for each encrypted archive.
  • Delete archives manually or manage their retention through cleanup plans.

Licensing

  • Solution-based: Backup and Disaster Recovery, Ultimate Protection
  • Service-based (per-workload, per-gigabyte): Standard Protection > Microsoft 365 seats

Platform: macOS 27 support

The Cyber Protection agent for Mac now supports macOS 27. Partners can protect and manage macOS 27 machines with the same functionality that is available for macOS 26.

Key benefits

  • Full cyber protection: Protect macOS 27 endpoints with the complete set of cyber protection features.

Supported scenarios

  • Back up and recover macOS 27 machines.
  • Protect macOS 27 machines with the security features.
  • Manage and monitor macOS 27 machines with the RMM features.

Licensing

  • Available with all licenses

Cyber Frame: Cyber Frame Local for edge deployments (single node)

Cyber Frame Local now runs on a single server at the customer site. Previously, a production deployment required a cluster of three or more nodes. A single-node deployment uses the same deployment and registration flow as a cluster. The resiliency comes from Acronis Cloud: off-site backups, and recovery to Cyber Frame Cloud if the node fails.

Key benefits

  • One server: Run 5 to 12 virtual machines without a cluster, a three-node minimum, or clustered storage.
  • Cloud resiliency: Close the single-node resiliency gap with off-site backups and failover to Acronis Cloud.
  • Built-in services: Use backup, disaster recovery, security, and RMM without additional integration.
  • One console: Manage all customer sites from one console, instead of one console per site.

Supported scenarios

  • Deploy Cyber Frame Local on a single node, and then register it in Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud.
  • Recover backups to Cyber Frame Cloud without a Disaster Recovery license, and pay only while the virtual machines run (DR Lite).
  • Migrate to the single-node deployment: back up the workloads to Acronis Cloud, install Cyber Frame Local, and then recover the workloads to the new deployment.

Implementation notes

  • The minimum configuration is 8 CPU cores and 32 GB of RAM.
  • DR Lite does not include failover automation or guaranteed capacity in Cyber Frame Cloud.

Licensing

  • Same as for Cyber Frame Local: priced per CPU core

Cyber Frame: Onboarding wizard for Cyber Frame Local

A new onboarding wizard guides administrators through the cluster setup of Cyber Frame Local. The wizard opens on the first login after the installation. It covers the node selection, networking, storage tiers and policies, redundancy, and compute configuration in one flow. The wizard pre-fills the settings from the installation data, validates the configuration, and shows a summary before it creates the cluster.

Key benefits

  • Faster deployment: Complete every step of the cluster setup in one guided flow, instead of moving between sections of the admin console.
  • Fewer errors: Start from settings that are pre-filled from the installation data, correct them as needed, and confirm them on a summary before anything is applied.

Supported scenarios

  • Configure a single-node or a multi-node cluster with the same wizard.
  • Skip the wizard and configure the cluster manually.
  • Minimize the wizard at any step and resume configuration later without losing progress.

Licensing

  • Available to Cyber Frame Local partners

Cyber Frame: Storage performance level in the storage policy name

In Cyber Frame Cloud, the name of the default storage policy now shows its QoS level: NVMe 10 IOPS per GB. Previously, the name did not include this information. Customers can now identify the storage performance at a glance when they create a virtual machine.

Key benefits

  • Clear performance tier: Identify the storage performance of a virtual machine at a glance.

Supported scenarios

  • Select the disk size that provides the IOPS level that the workload requires, during the virtual machine creation.

Licensing

  • Available to Cyber Frame Cloud partners

GenAI Protection: Support for Anthropic Claude

GenAI Protection now covers Anthropic Claude, in addition to ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, and Grok. GenAI Protection detects and blocks sensitive data and harmful instructions in the prompts and files that users send to Claude. The protection applies to Claude in web browsers and in Windows desktop applications.

Key benefits

  • Safe AI adoption: Meet the growing customer demand for safe, controlled AI adoption.
  • No productivity loss: Secure the AI assistants that employees already use, without blocking them.

Supported scenarios

  • Protect Claude on the web and through browser extensions, including Claude in Chrome.
  • Protect the Claude Windows desktop applications: Claude Cowork, Claude Code, Claude in Excel, and Claude in PowerPoint.
  • Block sensitive data and harmful instructions in the prompts and files that are sent to Claude through a public or a private API.

Implementation notes

  • Claude support is available only in the Full Protection mode.

Licensing

  • Solution-based: Workstations offering item under the Ultimate Protection license, Endpoints offering item under the Security and RMM license
  • Service-based (per-workload, per-gigabyte): Endpoints offering item under the GenAI Protection service

GenAI Protection: Available with the Security and RMM solution

GenAI Protection is now included in the solution-based Security and RMM package. Previously, partners had to use service-based licensing or Ultimate Protection to offer GenAI Protection. Existing and new Security and RMM customers receive GenAI Protection automatically, with no additional SKU and no price increase.

Key benefits

  • Simpler licensing: Keep customers on solution-based licensing, without a separate tenant or licensing model for GenAI Protection.
  • Faster adoption: Offer GenAI Protection to Security and RMM customers at no additional cost.

Supported scenarios

  • Existing Security and RMM customers receive GenAI Protection automatically.
  • New Security and RMM customers receive GenAI Protection when they are provisioned.
  • Manage one customer tenant instead of separate tenants for different licensing models.

Licensing

  • Solution-based: Security and RMM

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud

Backup

  • [ABR-445690] File backups of Windows machines failed because the service_process.exe process crashed when the backup plan included the same folder twice, with names that differed only by letter case.
  • [ABR-444582] Backups of volumes that were not encrypted finished with the warning "Unable to access the drive because it is locked by BitLocker Drive Encryption" when the machine had a locked BitLocker-encrypted volume.
  • [ABR-428167] Backups of Linux machines with ext4 file systems that were larger than 16 TB reported file system corruption. The disks were backed up sector by sector, which took more time and storage space.
  • [ABR-441301] Backup email notifications were not sent, because the notification service stopped when a tenant was deleted while notifications for its activities were pending.
  • [ABR-429957] When browsing deleted immutable backup slices in a cloud archive with immutability enabled, the operation failed with the error "Failed to find the backup".
  • [ARC-1030] The total archive size shown in the management console was larger than the sum of all recovery points, because the size of differential slice base backups was not included in the display.
  • [ABR-450868] Microsoft 365 SharePoint backups sometimes failed because the backup agent crashed when a parent folder of a file was deleted or was temporarily unavailable during the backup.
  • [ABR-450864] Microsoft 365 SharePoint and Teams backups failed with the error "Task timeout expired" or "A backup agent error", because the backup agent crashed when a network error interrupted a file download.
  • [ABR-449755] Microsoft 365 mailbox backups finished with the warning "resync recovery failed: invalid mapi type", and some mailbox items were not backed up.
  • [ABR-447007] Application-aware backups of Microsoft SQL Server databases failed with a Windows logon error after the machine credentials were changed, because the backup used the old credentials.

Bootable media

  • [ABR-393841] When a bootable media agent was offline, the Delete button was not available in the web console, making it impossible to remove the agent.

Integrations

  • [AA-12768] In Acronis PSA, the email server configuration showed authentication errors a few hours after it was configured, and error tickets were created.

Virtualization protection

  • [ABR-437325] VMware virtual machines with incomplete replication metadata (acronisTag.ReplicaType without acronisTag.ReplicaStatus) were hidden from the device list and could not be protected.
  • [ABR-444187] After an update of a virtual appliance that ran under a system administrator account in Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure, backups completed with the warning "403 - Forbidden: Policy does not allow current user to do this operation", and virtual machines were shown as offline.

Known issues and limitations

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud

Backup

  • [ABR-365442] The backup validation completes successfully, but the validation status is incorrect or missing in backup sets with a large number of backups.
  • [ABR-361097] It is possible to create backups with special characters in their names, but such backups are not accessible when saved on a network storage.
    • Solution: Do not use special characters in backup names, even though the application allows you to.
  • [ABR-305920] The backups of System state performed via the Windows Server Backup feature fail with the error message "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process."
  • [ABR-449788] When you browse Acronis Secure Zone in File Explorer on a Windows machine, the zone appears empty even if it contains backups. If the zone is password-protected, the password is not requested.

Bootable media

  • [ABR-358235] WinPE-based media: Unable to browse backup files if the cloud storage location contains corrupted backup archives.

Cyber Protect agent

Note: Starting with the 26.09 release, the Cyber Protection agent for Mac does not support macOS 10.13 through macOS 12. The minimum supported macOS version is macOS 13. Agents that are already installed on these macOS versions continue to work, but Acronis strongly recommends that you update to a supported macOS version.

Disaster recovery

  • If the tenant (customer or partner) is disabled or deleted while an Automated Failover is in progress, the operation fails with the error "Please try again later or contact Support" while it should indicate that the tenant is no longer accessible.

Virtualization protection

  • [ABR-383978] No alert about almost reached storage quota is displayed for agentless Microsoft Azure virtual machine backups.
  • [ABR-383972] No alert about exceeded storage quota is displayed for agentless Microsoft Azure virtual machine backups.
